INTRODUCTION:

The science of Yoga imbibe itself the complete essence of the Way of Life, including - Gyan Yoga or philosophy, Bhakti Yoga or path of devotional bliss, Karma Yoga or path of blissful action, and Raja Yoga or path of mind control. Raja Yoga is further divided into eight parts. At the heart of the Raja Yoga system, balancing and unifying these various approaches, is the practice of Yoga Asana.  Yoga is a science of right living and it works when integrated in our daily life. The word" Yoga" derives from the Sanskrit word "yuj" which means" to unite or integrate." Yoga then is about the union of a person's own consciousness and the universal consciousness. In this sense it is an exercise in moral and mental cultivation that generates good health (arogya), contributes to longevity (chirayu) and the total intrinsic discipline culminates into positive and perennial happiness and peace. Therefore, yoga is said to be indispensable of the ultimate accomplishment in life. It is a science that affects not only the conscious self but also the subconscious as well. It is a practical physiological training (kriya yoga), which if practiced can exalt man to the 'supra mundane level'. Yoga has never been aliens to us. We have been doing it since we were a baby! Whether it is the Cat Stretch that trengthens the spine or the Wind-Relieving pose that boosts digestion, you will always find infants doing some form of yoga throughout the day. Yoga can be many things to many people. We are determined to help you discover your “Yoga Way of Life!”6

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

A study to assess the level of knowledge regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers of Magadi rural schools, Ramanagara district.

1.      To assess the level of knowledge regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers of selected schools, Ramanagara district.

2.      To Determine the Association Between the level of knowledge regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers of magadi rural schools with their selected demographic variables.

RESEARCH HYPOTHESIS:

H1:

There will be significant association between the level of knowledge regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers, with their selected demographic Variables.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK:

The conceptual framework for the study is based on interpersonal relational model. Interpersonal relationship is a relationship maintained between two persons to solve the problem. Here the investigator maintains interpersonal relationship with the primary school teachers.

Interpersonal relations model was introduced by Hildegard E. Peplau in 1952. Peplau proposed four phases of interpersonal relationship which includes orientation, identification, exploitation and resolution phase

Enhancement

Modified Peplau’s interpersonal relations model:

Research design:

Non experimental – descriptive, design was used to assess the level of knowledge regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers of selected schools, Ramanagara district.

Setting:

The present study was conducted in Magadi, rural community area, Ramanagara district.

Population:

The total population of the present study comprised of all Primary school teachers in Magadi, rural community area, Ramanagara district.

Sample:

Primary school teachers of selected schools, Ramanagara district.

Sample size:

The sample size of the present study consists of 30 Primary school teachers of selected schools, Ramanagara district.

Criteria for sampling selection:

Inclusion Criteria:

The study includes

1. Teachers who are working in primary schools.

2. Teachers who are available at the time of data collection.

Exclusion criteria:

The study excluded

1. Teachers who are not willing to participate in the study.

2. Teachers who are not available at the time of data collection

Sampling technique:

Non probability – convenience sampling technique

Development and description of the tool:

The structured interview schedule consist of three sections

Section A:

Structured interview schedule for collecting demographic data of the teachers such as age, sex, religion, marital status, education, type of school.

Section B:

This section includes structured questionnaire to assess the level of Knowledge Regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers of selected schools, Ramanagara district.

Methods of data collection:

Data collection defined as the process of gathering information needed to address a research problem.

The investigator introduced the self to the Primary school teachers and maintained good communication. Before collecting data the investigator has informed about the importance of this study and ascertained the willingness of the participants. The validated structured questionnaire was used to collect data regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers. Since this technique is feasible and suitable to collect the data from all the samples.

The main study includes about 30 Primary school teachers were selected as subjects. The data was gathered by using structured interview schedule. Informed consent was taken and assured regarding the confidentiality of the information.

Plan for data analysis:

The data collected was analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Descriptive statistics:

Frequency, percentage distribution, mean and standard deviation were used to analyze the level of knowledge regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers.

Inferential statistics:

Chi-square test was used to analyze association of the knowledge regarding the benefits of yoga among Primary school teachers with their selected demographic variables.

Graph: Percentage distribution of level of knowledge regarding the benefit of yoga among Primary school teachers.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

·        The same study can be conducted with a quasi-experimental research approach by non probability sampling technique.

·        The study can be replicated with a large number of teachers in selected settings.

·        Comparative study can be conducted among teachers in rural and urban settings.

CONCLUSION:

Yoga  can be said that in view of the enormous benefits in terms of physical and mental health and its suitability to everybody, yogasanas and pranayamas should be adopted without any bias in our daily lifestyle and enjoy its enormous benefits in terms of good health, freedom from illness and mental peace and tranquility. Yoga can be learnt in a classroom environment as science, as psychology, as an applied subject, with the aim of providing new understanding and insight into the life process. So, the research conducting on the benefit of yoga will help to gain the knowledge of the teachers.
